Matakana Wine Trail

We had an amazing day! We were booked to do a food and wine small group tour to the Matakana region north of Auckland; however, it turned out to be a private tour with just Bruce, me and our wonderful tour guide. The Matakana area is characterized by rolling hills, vineyards and artisans. We visited several wineries, a pottery and a chocolatier.  We also enjoyed a platter lunch of local cheeses etc. in a lovely pastoral setting surrounded by vineyards, sculptures and lily ponds. Incredibly pretty and memorable.
We now have a ridiculous amount of wine in our stateroom. Better get drinking! :)
When we returned, we spent the evening touring Auckland's beautiful waterfront and enjoying a great meal of local fish and chips in a waterside pub. It was a nice break from the formality of the cruise ship.
